The Case Against Wearing Masks

Wearing protective gear is required in a lot of workplaces. It’s not uncommon to see workers wearing personal protective gear such as overalls, gloves, hard hats, boots, and face protection, including masks. In fact, in industrial and construction environments, workers are required by law to wear personal protection to minimize the risk of injuries and fatalities.

Since the pandemic swept throughout the world in early 2020, government leaders — both on a federal and local status — and medical experts have implored the masses to wear masks in public to help prevent the spread of the deadly virus. Some governments impose fines and penalties on anyone caught outside without their masks.

Unfortunately, not everyone is willing to comply with the WHO and federal protocols of wearing masks because it is somewhat a violation of their rights. Several Americans have appeared before the courts to protest the forced use of masks because it violates their constitutional rights.

According to them, on top of making it difficult to breathe comfortably, wearing a mask compromises their health as it forces them to breathe in the carbon dioxide they produce. They’re also fighting for their right to choose how they will take care of their health, and if they decide to have themselves exposed to the virus, it is their right.

5 Probable Reasons Why Folks Reject Wearing a Mask

With COVID detection getting more effective and accurate as we go further into this pandemic, many people are also getting more careless and reckless with how they conduct themselves in public. People still refuse to wear masks in public.

We have come up with a list of reasons why folks opt-out of wearing those pesky masks:

Reason #1: They don’t want to

Those who refuse to wear a mask because they don’t want to. Most of them fail to recognize how the coronavirus will make it more difficult to breathe than not wearing any masks. Or perhaps they don’t believe that it is a serious threat. Either way, these people choose not to wear a mask because they want to be in control.

Reason #2: They believe they are strong enough

One of the worst things that can happen, especially if a person is immunocompromised, is contracting diseases that could greatly affect their overall health. Even if they don’t get infected by the virus, their weakened physical condition could be infected by other viruses, and an illness, like tuberculosis could befall them. Plenty of people deny COVID and believe that their bodies are strong enough to resist it.

Reason #3: They are in denial

The thing with COVID is it viciously breaks down your immune system and attacks the vital organs in your body, especially your lungs. Not using a mask in public makes a person more susceptible to contracting the disease from either interacting with people or upon contact with an infected area. Once a person gets the virus and falls ill because of it, the chances of doing irreparable damage to the lungs are greater. Despite the statistics, they are still in denial that COVID is a major threat.

Reason #4: They probably think they can afford the treatment

Getting sick with COVID is no joke. Those who have taken the disease for granted and contracted the disease will attest to what a nightmare it is to deal with. Not only does it cause a person indescribable physical discomfort and mental torture, but it also does plenty of damage to one’s financial standing, with treatment and hospitalization bills piling up to tens of thousands of dollars. Those caught with their guards down are reeling from its financial effects as they work on their recovery.

Reason #5: They don’t mind harming the people around them

Lastly, folks who refuse to wear masks don’t have any sense of responsibility for their fellow men’s health, whether they’re family or strangers. Wearing a mask serves a two-fold purpose: it protects the wearer from droplets and serves as protection for other people just in case the wearer is infected without their knowledge. The mask isn’t there to limit a person’s breathing but to limit the spread of the disease. And anytime a person goes out with no mask on, they show a blatant disregard for other people’s health.

No matter what your reasons are for not wearing a mask during this pandemic, know that you are not only endangering yourself but the people around you as well, including your loved ones. At this point, it’s more than just asserting our rights. It is about being responsible for our health. We hope you reconsider your stance against masks and start thinking of them as a means to protect the people around you.
